📋1G* – I am from Philippines currently working as caregiver … I wanted to try CELBAN but I am scared … I am not working in the hospital now for three and half (3 1/2) years

Updated 2021

Dear Kim,

Greetings,

Honestly, I am comfused to what english test to take, I was reading about Ielts but I found difficult. I wanted to try CELBAN but I am scared because I don’t have the idea how is the exam is going to be, yes i know, there will be listening, reading, writing and speaking, but I am still wondering how is it going to be done in CELBAN. I have tried IELTS (general) before But I was not satisfied about my score, it was low, its was really bad and frustrating.

As when I was viewing all your videos (Dear Kim Canada – YouTube) I’ve heard that there will be role playing , and thats make me scared even more because I am not working in the hospital now for three and half (3 1/2) years, I can feel now as I do not know anything anymore in nursing, like nursing terms and all and so with the writing I am so slow, I practise, I try to write but everytime I read my out its so frustating because its just like it was done by grade 3or grade 5 student… I’m screwed!

By the way, I forgot to introduce my self, I am G from Philippines currently working as caregiver and soon to have an open permit, hopefully it will go smoothly.  (I’m working on my papers now). I am planning to complete my english exam within this year, I wanted to be a Licensed practical nurse first then hopefully I can proceed to a Registered Nurse someday if God’s permit.
Thank you…please help me. G

CELBAN Preparation in the PhilippinesDear G,

I felt happy reading your message. You are writing to me as if we are old friends, like you already know me, but we have not met.

Let me tell you this, G, although we have not met I was thinking about you, and all the other IENs that are out in the world, but I have not met yet! Seriously, and really. Although we had not met, I was thinking about you, knowing you were there, somewhere, needing the resources, supports, information and assistance I can provide: CELBAN courses, CELBAN material, CELBAN reviewers, CELBAN classes. So thank you, for taking the time to write, and for writing as if we have already met.

One more thing, before I begin answering your questions and commenting… look at that paragraph three and I have not even started yet… both of my Speaking Mentors were IENs from the Philippines who came here as LICG (Live in Care Givers), and have completed their registration process as LPNs during their two years. Both of them are now registered as LPNs in Canada and have PR (Permenent Residence) status! One is not only an LPN, but also an RN working at a hospital. How is that for good news.

Mind you, what lent to their success was their willingness and ability to adopt the CELBANPrep Method, which requires daily practice and time. They worked hard for several months mastering skills so that each one, like so many other CELBANPrep IENs, entered the CELBAN exam with confidence. And they both passed, the first time!

Why do I tell you this? Because in reading your message about your frustration and concerns, ” I am so slow … I try to write but every time I read my out its so frustrating because its just like it was done by grade 3 or grade 5 student…” I know that with time, and the CELBANPrep Method, we can get you to the point that you are writing quickly, with confidence in your abilities.

And, make sure to check out the CELBAN or IELTS series. These resources have been created to increase your score regardless of which exam you take. And, they will help you to increase your scores in reading, writing and speaking at the same time.

In the mean time, don’t worry about your work history, when it comes to the CELBAN. It is an ENGLISH EXAM in a nursing context.

It is not a nursing exam!

See, the thing is, G, I already know you will succeed. You have a humility that lends nicely to your readiness to learn. You lack pride and overconfidence. You are open and willing to learn. You know your weaknesses and are looking for a way to overcome them to obtain your goals and dreams of life in Canada. For all of these reasons, I know you will make it. Why? Because my staff have been dedicated to supporting fellow IENs by providing support having been there. They have rejoiced, as much as I did, when a fellow IEN obtained his/her dreams! That is what it means to be part of CELBANPrep.
