Getting Started: CARNA and the CELBAN

Hi there Ms.Kim!
I’ve already posted a comment on your blog..
Me and my family just arrived last January17, my husband and I are both nurses way back in the Philippines. I’m Hoping you could help me with some of my queries..
1. Where can me and my husband get assessed for our English language?
2. Is it true that before we can get assessed for CARNE we should have taken CELBAN?
3. If it’s true, how can we enroll with your CELBAN PREP and how much will it cost(is there any promotional rates or packages) and what are the review schedules?
4. Is there any expiration date for the CELBAN Exam? How long?
5. Do you have a branch here in Calgary? If you have, where is it located and can I have your contact numbers as well.
Thank You so much for answering all of my questions..
God Bless You Ms.Kim for helping us newcomers here in Canada!
Right now we’re currently unemployed, which makes us really sad..
We have already submitted a lot of resumes as nursing aids and health care aides in various hospitals and nursing homes..we really hope we can get hired and take the review lessons as well in order for us to take the CELBAN and the CARNE afterwards..
Our daughter is already studying here also.
Thank You for taking time reading and replying to my letter.. D

☺ Word of WARNING: the tragic consequences of procrastination

Hi kim!

I came here in Edmonton October of 2008, an IEN from the Philippines.Β  I am currently working as LPN.Β  Edmonton is my first destination and we will settle here for good.Β  When I did my assessment last juneof 2011,Β  CARNA gave me two courses to take that can be finished in 2 months time.Β  I was not able to take my courses early due to bulk of students that are doing the bridging at the MRU.Β  Unfortunately my IELTS exam will expire this coming April 11.Β  I took the exam again but i was not able to meet the required score in writing.

I want to try my luck with CELBAN, I am takign the test this coming April 11 and 12.Β  My problem is, i dont have any idea of the exam.Β  The self assessment for the test that can be accessed at the CELAS website is not fix yet. I hope you can give me an idea about the test.

$ If my language of instruction is English, in the Philippines, am I required to take the IELTS/CELBAN exam?

Dear Friends,

Hi, I’m a recent nurse graduate from the Philippines and worked in the hospital for 5 months. Recently, my family and I acquired the Canadian Visa and are now set to go to Canada on August 27th. Just a question though, if my school’s language of instruction is English (and considering that English is widely spoken here in our country, nursing textbooks and exams are in that language as well and I’m comfortable speaking/writing in that medium), am I still required to take the IELTS/CELBAN exam? I am really anxious about my future as a nurse there and would like to work as soon as possible.

Hoping for some guidance.

Sincerely,
Miss D

In the beginning, I don’t know how to do or use paypal

Dear Kim,
Greetings!
I’m sorry if I was hesitant to give information at first and I did not try to subscribe before, especially during your sale on CELBANprep. That time I’mΒ not yet decidedΒ if I will pursue my nursing profession or not, here in Canada, because of this English language fluency requirement, I find it difficult & I thought to give up. But then, I realized if I will try to study maybe somehow I’ll make it,that’s why I tried to read free study guides but it seems it is not enough & i have to learn more. In the beginning, I don’t know how to do or useΒ paypal, besides other prices are unaffordable for me. I am new here &Β I’mΒ stillΒ unemployed.Β It was my firstΒ  time & IΒ just tried to have & use paypal the day you give a sale for reading & listening skills for $19.99, & it works well.
Thank you very much.
Regards, M

β™₯ Have a good year and be courageous!

Over the Christmas holiday I sent an e-mail to one of the subscribers to CELBANPrep. I asked her to write a few words of encouragement to people taking the CELBAN. Today I opened my e-mail to read this wonderful message.

Yes, my pleasure.
Β When I firstΒ found CelbanPrepΒ on the internet searching materials about Celban, I was interested to see what is it. Then, readingΒ further and seeing possibilities to buy the materials, I doubted at the begining being afraid to buy. But then, it was a really good price (on sale), and I said,” Why not? Let’s try and take advantage of this price!” And I did it.
After I bought it, I was so surprized to see how many e-mail-s I’ve got from Kim with lessons and explanations about CelbanPrep. She leadeth me step by step through thisΒ path and now surprisingly, I’ve got her as a friend not only as aΒ teacher.
So, who ever wants to buy material about CelbanPrep from Kim, take courage and take advantage of it (she makes so many sales). The prices are convenient and you’ll be satisfied with CelbanPrep. Don’t hesitate to buy,
you won’t be tricked, but treated!!!
She helps you more then you expect and she has patience and is a very good teacher.
Β Have a good year and be courageous!

Surviving Winter in Canada

Dear Friend,

Time and time again I have met people, through CELBANPrep, who have arrived in Canada: some in the middle of the summer, some in the dead of winter, some who have been in Canada for some time.

Some people arrive, being greeted by family or friends, others by employers. Some people come before the rest of the family: seeking housing and employment. Others come alone.

Many come from warm climates like the Philippines, India, Mexico, South America and Oceana. Some come from Europe, and have experienced snow but very few have experienced the cold we have here in Canada.

Some people are fortunate to settle along the coast in British Columbia. These people have the easiest time adapting to the climate in Canada, as it is mild with very little snow. Others experience an abundance of snow, with cold but mild winters: in southern Ontario and Quebec. But those who settle in the Prairie cities of Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg will experience deep cold and alarming wind chills. This is also true for people settling in northern communities in many of the provinces.

The question is how to survive the winter in Canada?

In October, 2011, I was with a friend who had arrived form the Philippines only months before. It was night, and she was cold. She asked if it was going to get any colder. I realized that she was not prepared for what was to come. I took her shopping. As I did I taught her about how the cold impacts our bodies physiologically. I taught her about insulation, how it works, and the different kinds of fabrics. Then I took her to look at the different styles of boots, hats, scarves, gloves and mittens. At the end of the day I was satisfied that I had taught her all that all that I knew, all that I had learned about surviving winter in Canada. I felt confident that although she would still have to acclimatize to winter in Canada, she would be prepared as well as she could be. I hoped that eventually she would be able to enjoy the joys of winter: skating, skiing, and making snowmen.Spending time with my friend inspired me to write this book for you.

This is my hope for you, that you may know how to prepare yourself and your family so that you too can enjoy the treasures of winter life in Canada.

I hope you enjoy my book, Surviving Winter in Canada.

Sincerely,

Kim
