Dear Kim,

Greetings,
 
Honestly, I am comfused to what english test to take, I was reading about Ielts but I found difficult. I wanted to try CELBAN but I am scared because I don’t have the idea how is the exam is going to be, yes i know, there will be listening, reading, writing and speaking, but I am still wondering how is it going to be done in CELBAN. I have tried IELTS (general) before But I was not satisfied about my score, it was low, its was really bad and frustrating.
 
As when I was viewing all your videos (Dear Kim Canada – YouTube) I’ve heard that there will be role playing , and thats make me scared even more because I am not working in the hospital now for three and half (3 1/2) years, I can feel now as I do not know anything anymore in nursing, like nursing terms and all and so with the writing I am so slow, I practise, I try to write but everytime I read my out its so frustating because its just like it was done by grade 3or grade 5 student… I’m screwed!
 
By the way, I forgot to introduce my self, I am G from Philippines currently working as caregiver and soon to have an open permit, hopefully it will go smoothly.  (I’m working on my papers now). I am planning to complete my english exam within this year, I wanted to be a Licensed practical nurse first then hopefully I can proceed to a Registered Nurse someday if God’s permit.

HOPE !! I passed the CELBAN on my 1st try

Dear Kim,

Thank you for updating us KIM, sorry that I was not able to get back to you. i am happy to inform you that I passed the CELBAN on my 1st try last March 30, 2014. Thank you for all the help, inspiration and guidance along the way of my studying. So I am doing my assessment now with CLPNBC and CRNBC. Hoping for the best. Goodluck to all and never loose hope, loosers are those who just giving up easily. God bless to all!!!! Cheers!!!!!

 first I would like to thank you for great help of me as you have sent me the study guides. this gave me the idea of what I can expect in the exam,
 the  2 nd thing is that 2 weeks ago I came to know that I have to clear CELBAN exam for entrance to bridging programme for IEN. at that time I started to look for resources. so it was you who guided me. but 1 week go I came to know that the test is ICELBAN.  so because of your guidance I did it and got admission.

Dear Kim,
         Yesterday I came back from India….reached home at 12.30 am and first thing I did was….checked my mail box…got my CELBAN result letter…..my heart was beating very fast,my husband opened the letter for me and the result was WOW…….L-10/10, R- 10/10, S- 9/10, W- 7. I was just stunned…it was just dream come true…I called my family back in India and gave them the great news. Everybody is very happy and proud of me. I am grateful to God for his blessings and my family for their support. I am very thankful to u as without your guidance nothing was possible. Your guidance, support and trust helped me to stay positive and perform well in exam. I really appreciate your efforts for helping me in WRITING.
You are like an angle for IENs like me. Your voice is so miraculous that it always helped me to have trust in myself and do my best in that crucial time.I had a very short time with u but it was really a great experience….LOVE U…..GOD BLESS U…..

How are you today? Thanks for your question, I am doing pretty good.

The answers for your questions:
I am from Hungary, used to be a RN back home for 11.5 years. My specialty is NICU babies – on ward and transport them.
I have been here a little bit more than six years. I live in … BC .
I have never took any language test in Canada.
 
Can you tell me approximately how long does it take to prepare for the CELBAN test?

Nice to hear your lovely story.
Thank you for sharing your story!!
You might not remeber me: it is okay.
I just talked to you on the phone about couple years ago for speaking practice.
Thanks to your help , I was able to get into my practicum and finally I am a registered nurse now.
I work in a hospital, acute medical unit and ER back and force.
I love so much what I do and enjoy my life fully.
Again, thank you for your help.

hi Kim thanks for all your help … due to unexpected situation back home in the Philippines. I wont forget your kindheart especially for the IENs for helping us to surpass the english exam and to practice our nursing profession here in Canada. Fortunately, i passed the Celban last May 2013 and very happy working now as a Charge nurse here in [Saskatchwan]. Thanks for making me realized that Celban should be taken if you are IEN.

Kim! I am so happy to tell you that I passed my CELBAN exam! I took the examination last Oct 11 and it’s good for CARNA. I got 10 for listening and reading while I got 7 for writing and 8 for speaking. CARNA approved my application and I am just waiting for instructions. Thank you Kim for the encouragement, support and all the things that you had taught me! I will email you soon and tell you what’s happening in nursing career! God Bless you more! A

Kim, one more thing, I just got my CELBAN TEST RESULT:
Listening 10, Reading:9, Writing: 7, speaking:8  IS THAT THE PASSING SCORE? because it is not writen on the paper that I got if I passed or not !
I found on the website that I passed but I am not sure if the website is updated and what I found is the passing score!
