Dear Kim,
I’m good today. Not so nice here in Winnipeg as it rains all day. Originally, I’m from Philippines. I was sponsored by my wife and got my visa last march. I’ve arrived and been here in Canada for 10 months now and stayed in my sister-in-law’s house before moving out to our condo. I had my CLB score last August and it didn’t come out good. I had 6 in speaking, reading and writing while I had 8 in reading. I haven’t taken any English exams beacuse I was scared of failing an attempt in taking an exam… Thanks in advance for free study guide and practice exams.
Sincerely,
L
Dear Lawrence,
How courageous you are to admit your fear.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
― Nelson Mandela
and
Courage is not the absence of fear but the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all. For now you are traveling the road between who you think you are and who you can be. Princess Diaries
So, becoming a nurse in Canada will require you to be brave and courageous despite the fear of failure. One way to overcome that fear is to prepare to the best of your abilities, and to access as many resources as you can to sustain you in your goals and ambitions.
In all actuality your CLB score IS quite good. An 8 in reading is admirable, and will sustain you in increasing your score in the other skills. Without reading you can accomplish nothing; with reading, the world is in your hands. But, you do have weaknesses. Now that you know what they are it is up to you to turn them to strengths. Question is, how do you do that. Through your free guide you will find out about CELBANPrep’s courses and resources, but it will be up to you to decide if you and your future is worthy of an investment of time and money. Only you know your circumstances, only you can make that decision.
In all reality, it is good that you did not write the IELTS. It is quite difficult. Because so many people as me questions about which to take, the CELBAN or IELTS, I have posted many questions and answers: CELBAN or IELTS. You might also want to consider 7 Things You MUST Know to Pass the CELBAN . It is during this live presentation that I meet with people online to answer questions. 7 Things meetings are once per month.
It is also good that you did not take the CELBAN as you only get three chances to take the exam. Please read:
- WARNING: Avoid The CELBAN Trap! and
- Word of WARNING: the tragic consequences of procrastination and
- WARNING: Overconfidence can have detrimental effects.
Then write to me and tell me how making your decision to not take the test was a wise decision, but how procrastinating on this decision is detrimental.
I look forward to your reply, L!
Sincerely,
Kim
