How can you tell if you are reading a book that is at a CLB/CELBAN of 7, 8, 9?

Thanks again for your response! I have a question kim, In future report, can I consistently use simple past or other simple tenses? I find that simple tenses is easier, and if I stick with this strategy it will be easy, im not sure about this just saying πŸ™‚

That is a good question. Do you remember what I taught about the reading and listening levels, which are connected to writing levels?
 
How can you tell if you are reading a book at a CLB of 7, 8, 9?
 
What are the differences in sentence structure and vocabulary?
 
Study the differences between the local newspapers and the New York Times or the Financial Post.
 
Look at the sentence structure and grammar.

What Do You Observe in Reading the Following?

Ease of Reading: 100%, Grade Level: 0.

  • Today I went down town. First I went to a store to look at scooters. I learned a lot. Then I went to a sport store. I looked at the kayaks. I got one. My friends helped me to bring it home. Then I went to dance. 

Ease of Reading: 89%, Grade Level: 4

  • This morning, after speaking with a friend, I went downtown. I checked out a motorcycle and scooter store to do some research on which one I should get. After that I went to an outdoors sports store where I purchased a kayak I had been eyeing and saving up for. Finally I had the money. I got a discount on: the PDF, the paddle, and the throw bag. My kind and equipped friends had a roof rack and helped me to bring it home. I ended the day with dance. 

Ease of Reading: 75%, Grade Level: 6.

  • This morning, after speaking with a friend, I went downtown. I perused a motorcycle and scooter store to do some research on which one I should get. I learned about fuel injection, pistons, and stability. The heavier scooters have a greater stability, but the fuel consumption is greater. All are approved by the EPA and meet emissions levels for 2018! Subsequently I went to an outdoors sports and leisure center where I purchased a kayak I had been eyeing and saving up for. Finally I had the money. I got a discount on: the PDF, the paddle, and the throw bag. My kind and equipped friends had a roof rack and helped me to bring it home. I ended the day with dance. We had dances from: Israel, Greece, Taiwan and the Yemen.

All are approved by the EPA and meet emissions levels for 2018! Subsequently I went to an outdoors sports and leisure center where I purchased a kayak I had been eyeing and saving up for. Finally I had the money but I still welcomed the  discount on the following: the PDF, the paddle, and the throw bag. My kind and gracious friend had a roof rack ready to load the kayak and bring it home. I ended the day with dance. We had dances from: Israel, Greece, Taiwan and the Yemen. They included grapevines and Yemenites. 

Observations and Conclusions

In reading these passages, in comparing and contrasting:

  • What are the differences?
  • What about each paragraph increases or decreases the score?
  • What happens when you write a report with all your sentences having simple structure and all your verbs in simple past?
  • What would you have to do to get a reading/writing level to a higher level? (You are writing, your assessor is reading your writing.)
  • What do you need to learn how to do to increase your score in CELBAN writing?
  • What do you need to learn how to do to increase your score in CELBAN reading?
  • How can you use this information in choosing appropriate study materials?
  • How does knowing this help you to prepare for the CELBAN when it comes to reading, listening and writing?
