Since 2011, when Kim Kara, the founder of CELBANPrep, began receiving emails and writing back with helpful advice, she realized that others could benefit too. That’s why she decided to create this blog, where she shares the emails she gets and her responses. It’s called “Dear Kim.”
Because becoming a Licenced Health Professional in Canada can be challenging; these posts have been created to inspire, educate, and encourage.

Kim Kara is the visionary behind CELBANPrep/CELBANPrep University, a dynamic online platform designed to empower individuals aspiring to excel in the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) and other Internationally Educated Health Professionals seeking to fulfill their career aspirations through her transformative “English Language Mastery for Health Professionals” program and forthcoming podcast.
Kim embarked on a remarkable journey in 2009 during a nursing shortage. Faced with a lack of resources to prepare nurses for the CELBAN exam, Kim leveraged her Master’s in Education and technical prowess to create CELBANPrep. But she did not stop there.

In 2009, amidst a critical nursing shortage, Kim Kara found herself faced with a pressing need: her nurses sought resources and guidance to prepare for the CELBAN, yet none were available. Harnessing her expertise as a Master in Education graduate and fueled by her passion for design and technical abilities, Kim took matters into her own hands. Thus, CELBANPrep was born, comprising four distinct modules covering reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Having recognized the constraints of her nurses’ schedules, also in 2009, Kim transitioned to online teaching, ensuring accessibility for all. Her approach is rooted in participatory and experiential learning, a philosophy woven into the fabric of every program and resource she designs. CELBANPrep Publishing (2011)
With a heart brimming with compassion for writing Kim started creating a collection of books in 2011 and making them available on Amazon. Rooted in her Compassionate Pricing Policy, she created a series of affordable e-books, ensuring that no one would be left behind on their path to success.
Soon after one of her nurses, Sunita, having seen fellow learners struggle, suggested, “Kim, I was thinking why not to create a little grammar resource for CELBAN writings?” The Medical Grammar series was born.
In 2019, Kim’s dedication to empowering learners led her to transform her courses into textbooks, laying the groundwork for the CELBAN Preparation Guide Series. Recognizing the widespread challenges faced by Internationally Educated Health Professionals with medical collocations, Kim embarked on a mission to address this need. The culmination of her efforts resulted in the publication of the Medical Collocation series in 2023.

Drawing upon her wealth of time, knowledge, energy, and experience, she embarked on a mission to harness the power of technology for the benefit of her community.
With unwavering resolve, Kim transformed her extensive library of materials into a cutting-edge app-based campus, laying the foundation for CELBANPrep University. This innovative platform offers an immersive virtual campus experience, seamlessly accessible through a user-friendly app interface.
