🤔 How much does CELBANPrep cost?

Dear Friends,

COVID has changed our lives substantially. But some of the changes are good. After 10+ years of the CELBAN being delivered face to face and only in Canada with the announcement of the Computer Based Test, CELBAN CBT, in January of 2021:

The CELBAN is available online,
It is available internationally, and
IENS can take the CELBAN more than 3 times.

What that means is that as a service provider, CELBANPrep is changing too. As a result all of the articles on Dear Kim have to be updated. With more than 400 posts and 700 comments that is alot of content to wade through. The hope is to have the entire blog updated for Canada Day: July 1st, 2021.

Today I was updating Where should I start? originally posted in January 2015. So much has changed since then.

In writing that post I began answering the question, “How much does it cost?” I decided to create a new and separate post on that topic.

How Much Does it Cost? Take 1.

To tell you the truth that question really bothers me. It bothers me because many Internationally Educated Nurses are basing their decision about what preparation course, class and material to use based on cost.

This is not a discerning question. This is why so many IENs fall into traps and scams by hiring and paying people that know nothing about the exam.
There are so many better questions that can help you to discern whether the person or organization has quality CELBAN material, quality CELBAN training.

Please stop asking this as your first question. Learn about the CELBAN so that you can ask better questions to find trustworthy and reliable sources for CELBAN courses, CELBAN classes, and CELBAN material.

What happened in Canada when it comes to the CELBAN is going to become more widespread across the globe.

People who have been teaching English will suddenly proclaim that they can prepare you for the CELBAN when it simply is not true.
People will suddenly proclaim that you can prepare for the CELBAN in a weekend, or a week, or a month when it simply is not true.

Be Discerning

The more you read on Dear Kim, the more you understand about the CELBAN, the more you will see the falsehoods. The more time and money you will save. You will be a Wise nurse who avoids the traps and sinkholes that other less discerning nurses fall into.

Now that I have warned you about using this question to base your decision on how to prepare for the CELBAN, it is time to answer the question I am commonly asked, “How much does it cost?”

The other reason why I don’t like this question is because the answer is, “It depends.”

Most Internationally Educated Nurses do not know what I mean or why the answer would depend. They do not understand because they are used to reviewers and organizations that are teacher-centred.

But that is not the way of education or the medical field in Canada. In Canada we are both learner-centred and patient-centered. So things are done differently.

In the field of education, in Canada, very often we don’t focus on the needs of the teacher. Primarily many of us focus on the needs of the students. And what are the needs of Internationally Educated Nurses? The answer again, is, “It depends.”

It depends on how much time you have.
It depends on your financial situation.

And everyone’s situation is different.

You see, the answer to these questions determines:

how many modules you take at one time, based on how much time you have to study.
how many modules you can afford to take at one time, based on your finances.

Examples of Learner-Centred Individualized Plans

For instance, an IEN who is not working or does not have children can engage in Grammar Essentials, CELBANPrep Writing and Speaking at the same time, while a busy person might take one component at a time.

An IEN who has a solid income base can take several modules at a time, while an individual with a limited income would take one module at a time.
