I know I have to practice more and harder. I am frustrated. I can’t get my timing [for my writing assignments] right. At some point, I lost my enthusiasm to write but I know I can’t stop and I need go on and never give up. Now, I am reflecting and asking myself on the things that I should be thankful. After some thinking and motivating, I am slowly gaining back my enthusiasm to write. You know, there are times that I am at a point of giving up. Honestly, it is true. But, I always find myself reading to your words of encouragement and to your articles Dear Kim. Really, those words lift my spirits up. They always remind me that the only thing I can do is to never give up. Thank you Kim, for everything.
When I began working with Internationally Educated Health Professionals it became very evident to me that beyond helping people navigate the licensure process what people needed most is support: informational, affirmational and emotional. Time and time again I met people who needed encouragement. I began to understand how living in a new country without the love and support or family and community, coupled with facing new and unexpected challenges, placed people in very vulnerable places internally: mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I decided then that not only would I provide the information, I would provide whatever support was needed, if I could fill it.
Reading your message touched me deeply. It confirmed that I have been able to overcome the barriers of the “cold climate” of the internet through words of encouragement. This touches me very deeply, letting me know I am doing what I have been created to do.
So, reading your message reminded me once again that I should not give up. It reminds me that what I am doing is important.
In the meantime, I will tell you what I learned a long time ago from a song I used to dance to.
All my life I wanted to dance, not on stage in performance, but simply wanting to dance. I joined a dance group when I was 25, to the delight of my body, heart, mind and spirit. It was a meditative dance, to inspirational music. All of the songs were uplifting, motivating and encouraging. Some led us deep into our selves, but always at the end there was healing. Many songs have great meaning to me, but one in particular taught me a lesson I needed to learn. The words were:
I will be gentle with myself, I will love myself;
I am a child of the universe, being born each moment.
Please be gentle with yourself. You are learning. You are growing. And you will make it. At some point in time you will understand the balance between what to write and when to stop. You will come to trust that you have done the best that you can, and you have completed what you need to do. You will come to a place of peace and comfort: the source of inner confidence.
You may doubt my words, but I say them with confidence knowing that those who have come before you have reached that point, and in doing so have passed CELBAN Writing.
Thank you for persevering. Thank you for your resilience. Thank you for not giving up. You are not alone and you have more friends than you can possibly know!
