♥ Dreams for you

Dear Friend,

There are times when I work on the computer, that I listen to music. I was just listening to the song Dreams for You, by Susan Aglukark reading a comment by a subscriber to CELBANPrep Writing. She had taken the CELBAN, and failed the writing section. Now with the help of a Writing Coach during the Writing Tutoring she has improved in her ability to write detailed reports in 20 minutes.  After reading one assignment I asked, “So how did that go? Was it comparable to writing for the exam? How was your timing?”

She replied

Yes, it’s really like the one in the exam.

I also made it on time to check and edit it without re-writing the whole composition. Before [I wrote], I stopped to think, what’s the next step in writing and what details should I put in. But after all the days that I am practicing, I noticed my hand just continued writing until I finished the report that I still had enough time to edit it. Thank you sooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!

Reading this message while listening to the song touched me deeply.

Susan Aglukark is First Nations, she is Inuk born in Churchill, Manitoba and from Arviat, Nunavut: far in the north in Canada. Like many First Nations communities there are many social issues: addiction, suicide and isolation. Having a dream of becoming a singer under such conditions was definitely the sign of a dreamer. One would have to overcome overwhelming odds to obtain this dream: a seemingly impossible dream. But Susan’s father believed in her and encouraged her to sing about her people and her culture.

Susan has been awarded the Juno Award seven times, among other awards. From her Bio on her website:

Susan has held command performances for:

  • HRH Queen Elizabeth (twice)
  • Canadian Prime Ministers Jean Chrétien and Brian Mulroney
  • President of France, Jacques Chirac.
  • Nelson Mandela
  • Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson
  • Her Excellency the Countess of Wessex

Susan started her career at 24, without any traditional western musical training.

All of this adds texture and meaning to her song, Dreams for You.

Please download the song from iTunes to support this amazing artist, if you feel motivated and encouraged by her story.

All dreams are possible with work, dedication, support and encouragement.  It is  with practice and the help of a Writing Coach during the Writing Tutoring that this nurse will do the same: live a seemingly impossible dream.

To all of those who have come to me, through CELBANPrep, and subscribed to e-books, courses and webinars Thank You! Thank you for supporting me and encouraging me in living my seemingly impossible dream.

Enjoy!

Kim

P.S. Please write a comment about who has encouraged you along your journey of migration and becoming a nurse in Canada.
